II Jornadas EMOciutats
Coexistence, community and emotional well-being
May 14 and 15, 2025
Paraninf de la Diputació de Barcelona
The II EMOciutats event established a strategic space for reflection and action to promote emotional well-being at the local level. Organized jointly by the Barcelona Provincial Council and the International Network for Emotional Education and Well-being (RIEEB), they brought together political leaders, professionals, academic experts, and municipalities committed to a community-oriented perspective on emotional health.
For two days, one of the major current challenges was addressed: how to build cities that promote coexistence, social cohesion, and emotional balance throughout the entire life cycle.
A community and intersectional approach
The inaugural presentation, led by Dr. Rafael Bisquerra, positioned emotional education as a structural response to current social needs, from a perspective of emotional competencies and public health.
The round tables delved into:
Environments that promote emotional balance & coexistence.
Inclusive and welcoming cities of diversity.
Well-being generating communities.
It focused on the social determinants of mental health, the importance of quality relationships, the genuine participation of children and youth, the gender and intersectional perspective and the need to strengthen community ties and belonging.
The second day featured municipal experiences that are already generating real impact on children, youth and the community, demonstrating that emotional well-being can be addressed through coordinated local action.
Among the main conclusions, the importance of emotional competencies, prevention, networking and the reduction of stigma in mental health stand out.
